How can we help?
We can help to improve your child’s handwriting, through a combination of assessment and treatment approaches. We will analyse the underlying aspects behind your child’s handwriting difficulties and provide strategies to help improve their overall handwriting.
We will use a variety of treatment approaches and strategies which may not always involve a pen or pencil and paper. We would also consider underlying skills which influence good handwriting, such as:
-
Pincer grip
-
Pencil tripod grip
-
Hand, wrist and finger strength and dexterity
-
Shoulder strength and stabilisation
-
Upper body strength and posture
-
Visual perception
-
Figure-ground discrimination
-
Pattern formation
-
Understanding concepts of spacing, alignment and letter size
We will help to address these underlying aspects of handwriting through analysis and provision/implementation of a treatment plan. This will be incorporated into fun and meaningful activities during the sessions, to ensure your child is motivated, engaged and enjoying their time with their Occupational Therapist!
Implementation of an intensive handwriting programme will include:
-
A standardised handwriting assessment
-
8 x 2-hour treatment sessions over 2 weeks

Liaison with school/education setting
